What you'll accomplish

By the end of this guide, you'll be able to walk into court better prepared, in half the time it normally takes. You'll use ChatGPT to extract the key facts from an old incident report, identify the likely defense cross-examination angles, and build a quick mental outline for testimony — all from a phone or laptop the night before court.

What you'll need

  • A free ChatGPT account (chatgpt.com)
  • Your incident report for the case you're testifying on (non-redacted, real case — you'll sanitize it before pasting)
  • Time needed: 15-20 minutes to prep per court appearance
  • Cost: Free

CJIS Note — Important: ChatGPT is NOT CJIS-compliant. Before pasting any incident report text into ChatGPT:

  • Replace all real names with "the subject," "the victim," "the witness"
  • Remove case numbers, badge numbers, and specific addresses
  • The facts of what happened are fine to include — personal identifying information is not

How-To Guide: ChatGPT for Court Testimony Preparation

Step 1: Pull your incident report
